Nate Smeltz '00
Nate Smeltz is the director of communications at ESPN. He oversees the strategic public relations efforts of all MLB and NBA content, as well as the Little League World Series, produced across ABC and ESPN platforms. In addition, Nate serves as the company’s spokesperson. Nate joined ESPN, headquartered in Bristol, Conn., in 2000, as a network information representative. He quickly rose through the ranks and became manager in 2008.
In 2005, Nate was part of ESPN’s communications team that was named PR Week’s Large Corporate Communications Team of the Year. ESPN’s communication department has frequently been recognized by the Sports Business Journal Reader Survey as the Most Effective Sports PR Division.
In 2010, Nate was selected to participate in ESPN’s prestigious Dimensions Program, an ambitious curriculum designed for high-performers within the company. Nate also received multiple APEX Awards for outstanding press release writing and several Spotlight Awards for publicity excellence..
