Why Study Math at E-town?
Supportive Academic Community
The learning and study environment in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Elizabethtown College is wonderfully cooperative and conducive to learning. Our classes are small, our faculty members are accessible and our students help each other. Our department is small enough to allow a great deal of individual attention, yet large enough to foster camaraderie and group study among students.
Outstanding Faculty Dedicated to Teaching
Student learning –inside and outside the classroom—is the top priority of our faculty members. Combining years of experience and deep intellectual backgrounds, we are enthusiastic about sharing our expertise with students.
Variety of Academic or Career Options
As a graduate of one of our programs, you can obtain a good position in education, government or industry; or, choose to continue your education in a well-respected graduate program.
Use Mathematics in the Larger World
We encourage experiential learning through internships, fieldwork, on-campus employment as a math tutor, collaboration with faculty, attendance and presentation at conferences, study abroad programs and many other venues.
Strong Preparation for Actuarial Exams
For actuarial sciences majors, our curriculum includes courses specifically geared to exam preparation. Three of our eight full-time faculty members have passed Society of Actuaries credentialing exams themselves, and one is an associate of the Society of Actuaries.
Student Involvement
Elizabethtown College has a Math Club, which provides a forum for students interested in mathematics to exchange ideas, and also offers activities such as field trips and speakers. There is also an active student chapter of the mathematics honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon.
Math Hideaway
Our department features a special place for math students. The Math Hideaway was specifically designed as a place where our majors could gather to study, work and relax together.
