There are many reasons to study German at Elizabethtown College.

Join the fun

Take part in meetings of the German Klub and the bi-weekly German Table (Stammtisch). Watch great German movies; go on excursions with the German Klub. Get to know native German students. Study abroad in fairy-tale-like Marburg. Finally, fear not: German and English are closely related: Willkommen=Welcome.

Broaden your horizons

German is the language of world-renowned scientists, musicians, and writers such as Freud and Einstein, Mozart and Beethoven, Goethe and Kafka. Nowadays, German, which is also spoken in Austria and Switzerland, has the largest number of native speakers in Europe (over 120 million). Besides, Germany is an economic powerhouse: More than 1,100 German subsidiaries operate in the U.S. alone, and Germany is the second-largest exporter in the world.

Open up career opportunities

A major or minor in German can lead to a broad range of careers. The German program is flexible, and double majoring is encouraged. Our graduates pursue careers in a range of careers from business and communication to science and education.
