Be a Peace Maker

Global Understanding and Peacemaking – Goal $3.5 Million

At a time when fear of foreign cultures and ideas is at an all-time high, the need for peace has never been more real and essential. Peace has always been a hallmark of the Elizabethtown College experience, both in classroom teaching and real-world applications. In an age when peace efforts are met with struggle, we feel that our commitment should reflect the need globally for peace education.

Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking - $2M

The Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking’s mission is to advance global understanding, international engagement, and non-violent conflict transformation by providing opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to develop a sense of responsibility as citizens of the world.

Our students should be knowledgeable about global issues, empathetic toward people of other cultures and nationalities, and committed to the values of peace, human dignity, and social justice. Global understanding and peacemaking is not focused on a single subject matter, but is rather a lens through which to view any field of study.

The Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking supports numerous departments, centers, programs, and student clubs at Elizabethtown such as:

  • Asian Studies, International Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies minors
  • The incorporation of international and peacemaking topics across the college curriculum
  • Co-curricular programs that foster intercultural understanding and peacemaking
  • Annual Ware Lecture on peacemaking topics
  • Study Abroad and cross-cultural experiences
  • The Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies
  • Model United Nations

Academic Chair in Global Understanding and Peacemaking - $1.5M

A position solely dedicated to teaching and providing opportunities for studying and learning about global peace would be transformative for our students. A donation of this capacity would permanently fund a dedicated faculty position for our students.

With nearly every student on campus engaging in some capacity with global peacemaking, this Chair position would serve students in every academic discipline and every corner of campus. This position would provide students ample time to reap the benefits from a professor dedicated to the study of Global Understanding and Peacemaking.
