Symantec Endpoint Protection Removal

Upon graduation the antivirus program (Symantec Endpoint Protection - SEP), which the College required, may be removed from your computer.  If you remove SEP, please install another antivirus program on your computer, so you are protected.  Two popular free applications are listed below:

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
Avast! Home Edition

Preferred - Add or Remove Programs

  1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
  2. Double click Add or Remove Programs
  3. Click Live Update
  4. Click Remove
  5. Click Yes
  6. Click Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Endpoint Protection
  7. Click Remove
  8. Click Yes
  9. If you have other programs running, you may receive an error message that the "...following applications should be closed before continuing..." Close the applications listed
  10. Click Retry
  11. Enter the password to uninstall SAV: "symantec".  The password may not work and an error message will appear, "The password entered is incorrect. Please check the Caps Lock key and enter the password again.", even though the password was typed correctly.


CleanWipe Program - if the preferred way doesn't work

* Warnings about SCSCleanWipe: SCSCleanWipe removes ALL Symantec products, not only the AntiVirus program. If you have other Symantec programs installed, make sure you can reinstall them after running SCSCleanWipe. The SCSCleanWipe User's Guide says: "...SCSCleanWipe is an unsupported Symantec tool provided as a fallback resource in case a regular uninstallation cannot properly commence. The tool is provided as an “as is” state and Symantec takes no responsibilities with any unforeseen errors resulting from usage of the tool."

  1. Download the file: SCSCleanWipe.
  2. Save to your desktop
  3. Close the browser
  4. On the desktop, double click
  5. Double click SCS_CleanWipe.bat
  6. Click Extract all
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Next
  9. Click Finish
  10. Close both SCSCleanWipe windows
  11. Find the SCSCleanWipe folder, double click it
  12. Double click SCS_CleanWipe.bat
  13. The SCSCleanWipe manual is in the Docs folder, SCS CleanWipe Users Guide.doc.
  14. Subsequent to removal, you may delete any and all files downloaded.


Apple Removal Instructions

  1. At your desktop, double click your Macintosh HD, or  local hard-drive.
  2. Under Places, navigate to your Applications Folder.
  3. Scroll down until you find the folder titled "Symantec Solutions" and double-click it.
  4. Then, double-click on "Symantec Uninstaller".
  5. At the prompt questioning what products you would like to uninstall, check Symantec AntiVirus Corporate, and Norton AntiVirus (which should also automatically select Auto-Protect).
  6. Once all are checked, press the Uninstall button.
  7. When prompted about deleting the software, proceed by clicking Uninstall again.
  8. Mac OS X will ask for an administrator's password. 
  9. Verify the username and enter your local machine's account password, if you have one.
  10. Removal of the program will progress, and at the conclusion of the uninstallation, a system log will appear.
  11. Click Close and then press Restart, so your system can finish its required tasks.
