Fax Announcement (6/26)
When the phone system is updated later this summer, the fax machines that are currently on campus will no longer function; they are not compatible with the new system. ITS is currently working on a fax server which will allow faxes to be sent and received through e-mail.
To send a fax using this new system, you will simply send the file (via email) to the fax server. The fax server will then take care of sending the fax for you. This will allow the fax to be sent from anywhere you have access to your e-mail.
For receiving faxes, the fax server will listen to your current fax number. When it receives a fax, it will convert it to an e-mail and forward it as an attachment. Although anyone will be able to send a fax, the incoming faxes will be forwarded to a specific person (or group of people) within each department.
Rather than send the faxes to every member of the department, it seems most beneficial to have one or two people responsible for receiving faxes and then forward them on to others if needed. This is where we need your help. We took a guess as to which person in each office would receive most of the faxes, and that is why you are receiving this message. Please let us know if you are the person that should receive the faxes and if there is a second person who should also receive them (in case you’re out of the office).
Instructions for using the fax server will be made available over the next few weeks. Feel free to contact the Helpdesk (helpdesk@etown.edu) if you have any questions.
