Class of 1954 Celebrates 70th Anniversary

During the celebration, guests from the Class of 1954 received the Etown pin, which is now presented to incoming Blue Jay students.

Rosalind Griffin '61 was selected as a recipient of a National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Maryland Social Work Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor recognized Griffin's exceptional contributions and dedication to the field of social work.

Elementary Education and English alumna Barbara Larmon Failing '75 recently published her new book, “MASSACHUSETTS! The Stolen Spyglass," an exciting adventure mystery set on Nantucket Island off the coast of Cape Cod. Forty Years of Blue Jay Friendship

Amy Ravel '94, a Technology Teacher at Asbury Elementary in Denver, Colo., was selected to be a member of the Google EDU + AI North America Fellowship for 2024. Diana Heeren '96 was promoted to Senior Associate Vice President for Finance and Chief Compliance Officer at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Marnie (Kinney) Grumbach '00 (pictured on the left), a Communications alumna and Founder of integrated marketing communications agency Fluent imc, recently accepted seven Golden Arrow Awards from the Maine Public Relations Council for the agency's outstanding work across various communications campaigns. Dr. Susan Bender '03 was promoted to Associate Professor of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Bender majored in Biology at Etown, then earned her VMD and Ph.D. in virology from the University of Pennsylvania and MS in veterinary forensic sciences from the University of Florida. Jennifer Galloway '06 was announced as the immediate past chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) during the association’s Annual Meeting on May 10, 2024. Ryan Kiscaden '07, M'14 launched his fictional children's book, "The Air Came to a Stop" in November 2024. The book is the second installment in the Next UP Trades Series, following "The Water Came to a Stop,"and is designed to help combat workforce challenges by sparking curiosity in trade careers early on.

Paul D. Edger '08 was elected to a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Board of Governors, effective after the association’s Annual Meeting on May 10, 2024. Lillian Schemadovits-Norris ’08 was promoted to Permitting and Compliance Manager of the Environmental Health and Safety team at Roseburg Forest Products. Julie Sebastian '12 was recognized for the growth and expansion of her company, Julie Sebastian Softball and Fitness LLC in Newtown Square, Pa. at the SCORE Small Business Achievement Awards event in June 2024. Elementary Education and English alumna Barbara Larmon Failing '75 recently published the middle-grade novel, "ALASKA! Danger on the Mushing Trail (Ages 8-12)." The story follows Josh Parker, an eleven-year-old with a fear of dogs who is visiting his older cousin Brent, a competitive sled dog racer, in Alaska and faces a blizzard that disrupts a training run.Evelyn Bomgardner Martin '74

David R. Longsderff '80 self-published his first book, “Jobs,” in September 2023. A Business Administration major with a Marketing concentration while at Etown, Longsderff completed a 40-year international business career in 2019 to start an insurance brokerage firm in Lancaster. Melissa Drummond (Arnold) '88 retired in March 2023 after 35 years of public service as a federal worker. Caitlin Wilson '16 completed service in the Peace Corps after 27 months of living and working as an agriculture volunteer in Ghana. During her service, Wilson was assigned to the northern region of Ghana, where she served as an agriculture extension agent for the community. She and a local counterpart worked with a women’s group to grow sweet potatoes and establish a dry season garden to preserve the vines between rainy seasons. Prior to arriving in her community, she received intensive technical and cultural training and language instruction. She is now pursuing a Master of Science at West Virginia University.Eric Guise '05

Montana Tamny '11 is working for the Uncommon Individual Foundation (UIF). Tamny is part of UIF’s Youth Literacy Mentoring Program (YLM), which helps various schools in Philadelphia read at grade level. Forty-four years after writing her essay, “Love is …” for an Allentown School District essay contest, Kimberly Lipsky Weidman '91, published her book on Amazon on April 23, 2022. The book tells the story of the main character creating the word, “love,” and then searching for its meaning by exploring the world around him. The original essay won first place for grades 1-3 in the school district.
