*Students electing to earn K-12 principal’s certificate must complete an additional 35 internship hours per course (175 hours total). Upon graduation, students must complete MED 595 Principal’s internship and an additional 185 internship hours.

**Students electing to take MED 595 are not required to take MED 590. MED 595 The Principal's Internship is a required seminar and supervised field experience under the supervision of an active building principal for those individuals seeking a principal's certification in Pennsylvania. Participants will complete an additional 185 internship hours for a total of 360 hours of experience. In addition, they must successfully complete the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) Praxis Exam.

The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership is priced at $525 per credit. Scholarships and financial aid are available to make your Etown SGPS education even more affordable. Below are just a few of the scholarships and programs available to students:

  • Alumni Scholarship: 15% tuition discount, available to Elizabethtown College alumni.
  • Affinity Partner Scholarship: 15% discount, offered to employees of organizations partnered with Etown SGPS.
  • Jay Fellowship Referral Program: This is a referral program that benefits both current students/alumni and prospective students. When a student or alum refers a new student, both the referrer and the referred student receive a complimentary credit for their program of interest.

Required Courses

This introductory course provides a foundation for the study of leadership through a comprehensive examination of the history, theories, and processes of leadership.  Opportunities will be provided for learners to explore the application of specific leadership strategies and techniques within the context of challenges leaders face.  Learners will be engaged in self-reflection and feedback activities geared toward assessing current strengths and formulating plans for building their own leadership skills.

This course will focus on applying curriculum theory, methods, and current trends in curriculum development towards constructing curricula relevant to a diversity of educational settings. Special attention will be placed on the infusion of technology and online learning in planning and implementing curricula.

This course will trace the history of Educational Accountability with an aim at contextualizing reform efforts born from the landmark treatise, “A Nation at Risk”, and evaluating subsequent policy implementation. An analysis of accountability systems from various industries will be discussed and a new model for educational accountability will be proposed.

The fundamental basis of any organizational accountability system is the articulation of the benefit that a stakeholder can expect by engaging with your organization. Participants in this course will engage in an ongoing workshop process with their peers to develop the concept of "student benefit" and articulate specific benefits that students and parents receive through an interaction with their school district. Each benefit will be developed and a system for collecting evidence for each benefit will be described.

Universal Design for Learning explores the principles and strategies for creating adaptable and accessible learning environments. This course is designed for those who wish to make education more equitable by accommodating the diverse needs and preferences of all learners, including those with disabilities. Participants will delve into UDL's three guiding principles and learn how to apply these concepts to create flexible and effective instructional materials and practices, ensuring that education is accessible to everyone.

The Educational Leadership Capstone is the culminating course designed to synthesize and apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the educational leadership program. Students will engage in comprehensive research, strategic planning, and the execution of an educational leadership project that addresses a real-world challenge or opportunity within an educational organization. This capstone experience aims to prepare future educational leaders for effective decision-making, problem-solving, and transformational leadership in the field of education.

Application Requirements & Process

To enter our M.Ed. in Educational Leadership program you will need to:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Successfully complete an undergraduate-level math course in probability and statistics.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • GRE or GMAT scores are optional.
  • Hold a teaching license in Pennsylvania and currently be working as a teacher in Pennsylvania.*

*Only applies to the Educational Leadership and Principal's Certificate Concentration.

  •  Contact or meet with our admissions staff for guidance and to find out more information.
  •  Complete the graduate application via the online portal which includes the submission of a $50 nonrefundable application fee, waived for Elizabethtown College graduates.
    • You will need to request official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions you have attended and upload your current resume.
    • Additionally, prepare a writing sample that demonstrates higher-order thinking, writing, and communication skills.
    • Applicants should also supply two letters of recommendation in support of your academic and professional abilities for success in the program.
    • As an optional step, you can upload GRE/MAT scores.
  •  After submitting your application, the SGPS Team will review it and make an admissions decision.
  •  If accepted, you will receive an initial offer letter via the applicant portal, which you must accept to proceed with matriculation.
