The Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-Being
Fitness
The Bowers Center is a central hub for all things fitness and recreation. It has a 180-meter indoor track and three basketball/volleyball/tennis courts, which are located inside the Fieldhouse on the first level. The cardio, strength, and fitness wing is located on the second level. The fitness center is equipped with a multitude of equipment as well as two group fitness rooms.

General Policies and Procedures
- Use of The Bowers Center is a privilege. Anyone violating guidelines, including verbal and/or physical abuse of employee(s) or user(s), criminal activity, disorderly conduct, or inappropriate behavior is subject to:
- Immediate removal
- Suspension of membership
- Referral to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities under the Student Code of Conduct or other applicable guidelines as defined in the Student Handbook
- Current Etown students, faculty, staff, and authorized membership holders may use the facility during open recreation hours with a valid Etown ID. An ID card is required to use the Bowers Center spaces.
- Attempting to use another student's ID card as your own will result in temporary suspension for the first offense. Longer suspensions or permanent removal from the facility will follow if more attempts are made.
- Intercollegiate contests and practices, academic courses, Bowers Center sponsored events and activities (group fitness classes, health promotion, intramurals) and other Etown-hosted campus events have priority scheduling to spaces in this facility.
- No one under the age of 18 may use the facility, with the exception of summer family rec pass users with a guardian present and other college-sponsored camps.
- The Bowers Center is an alcohol, drug, and tobacco-free facility. Alcohol will only be permitted for approved college-sponsored events.
- The Bowers Center is a “participate at your own risk” environment. Users are solely responsible for their actions, including but not limited to, damaged equipment.
- Clean, closed-toe, closed-heel athletic shoes with non-marking soles are permitted in the activity areas.
- Appropriate attire is required in all activity areas. Shirts must be worn at all times. Jeans, boots, and scrubs are not permitted.
- Motorized vehicles are prohibited inside the facility, with the exception of electric carts to assist persons with disabilities. Rollerblades, skateboards, or hoverboards are not permitted.
- No pets, with the exception of service animals, are permitted in the facility.
- Weapons as defined by the Elizabethtown College Student Code of Conduct are prohibited.
- Lockers and cubbies are available for the storage of all personal items. Personal items are not permitted in hallways, lobbies, stairwells, or activity areas.
- The college is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
- Injuries, accidents, or equipment failures should be reported immediately to Bowers Center staff. Do not use equipment if it is damaged or if your safety is in question.
- Food is prohibited in multipurpose rooms, fitness areas, and the fieldhouse unless authorized for a specific event. Food must be contained in the demonstration kitchen, Fresh Nest, and lounges. Drinks must be kept in a closed container.
- Requests for approval to post flyers, signs, or posters should be directed to the Bowers Center staff.
- Videoing, photographing, and/or audio recording other Bowers Center patrons or guests without their prior authorization is prohibited and is cause for referral to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities under the Student Code of Conduct.
- The use of photography and video in bathrooms or locker rooms is prohibited.
- Hours are subject to change based on the college’s academic schedule and weather.
- If you are sick, please refrain from using the facilities
- The Bowers Center staff reserves the right to implement any additional guidelines that protect the health and safety of the facility and its users.
Other Policies and Procedures
- Playing music at a level disturbing to other patrons and without the use of earphones is prohibited.
- Loose chalk is not permitted in the Bowers Center
- All fitness equipment should remain in the part of the facility where it was originally located. Improper use, or unapproved modifications, of equipment beyond the manufacturer’s purpose are prohibited
- All weights must be re-racked upon completion of the exercise.
- Use barbell collars when possible.
- Load and unload bars evenly.
- No Olympic movements on platforms close to the fitness center office.
- Do not excessively drop or throw weights, bars, or dumbbells. Place weights flat on the floor between sets.
- When using bumper plates, keep the lift within the boundaries of the platform.
- Do not drop empty bars.
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- Olympic lifts that are performed above the head are permitted only under the supervision of a spotter
- During times of peak use, please limit workouts on cardio equipment to 30 minutes. Work in with others on strength equipment.
- Personal items must be stored in cubbies or lockers.
- Appropriate exercise attire is required.
- No food is permitted in this area. Drinks must have a closed lid.
- Recreational equipment will be issued from the cardio, strength, and fitness desk with college-issued IDs. The borrower is responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items.
- Participants are required to wipe off equipment when finished.
- Report any equipment malfunctions to the Bowers Center staff.
- Personal training or private instruction is restricted to those individuals who are specifically employed by The Bowers Center. No solicitation is allowed.
- Please refer to the “General Policies” section for additional policies.
- This room is specifically designed for structured use by groups, aerobic and dance classes, martial arts, etc. However, individual use is permitted when classes are not in session.
- If a group fitness class is in session, non-participants are not allowed to enter the room for safety reasons
- Recreational equipment will be issued from the cardio, strength, and fitness desk with college-issued IDs. The borrower is responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items.
- Appropriate exercise attire is required.
- All equipment should be cleaned and returned to the proper storage area.
- Personal belongings must be kept in a locker or cubby where available.
- No food is permitted in this area. Drinks must have a closed lid.
- All participants must register for classes prior to the start of the class.
- When possible, proper notification will be given for canceled classes.
- Please refer to the “General Policies” section for additional rules.
- Playing music at a level disturbing to other patrons and without the use of earphones is prohibited.
- Hanging on basketball rims is prohibited.
- Good sportsmanship and proper conduct are expected at all times.
- The batting cage is not available for public use.
- Recreational equipment will be issued from the equipment desk with college-issued IDs. The borrower is responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items
- No fitness equipment is to be taken from the fitness center area and used in the fieldhouse unless approved by Bowers Center staff.
- No food is permitted in this area unless authorized for a specific event. Drinks must have a closed lid.
- Scheduled activities on courts may take priority over open recreation

Fitness and Recreation Rooms
Fieldhouse
This multiuse court can function as a basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court, indoor track and field practice area, and is surrounded by a 180-meter indoor track. It can also be used as a large event venue space.
Cardio, Strength & Fitness Area
This area is equipped with 52 cardio pieces, mostly all with individual viewing screens, 38 strength equipment, including 6 squat racks, and a magnitude of functional fitness training equipment. The cardio area is surrounded by Sage Glass which tints automatically to optimize building comfort.
Group Fitness Rooms
These rooms house the Group Fitness program and can be opened up to one large room or split into 2 smaller rooms. With a multipurpose flooring, use can range from spinning and Zumba classes to circuit training and HIIT. The room has a ballet bar for Barre classes as well as TRX hook-ups.
Classroom
Housed in the Well-Being Wing is our classroom that can be used for trainings, educational classes and group meeting spaces.
Relaxation Room
Also housed in the Well-Being Wing is a Relaxation Room. The Relaxation Room is equipped with comfortable furniture, calming activities, and a Sleep Pod. This space is the ultimate de-stress zone!
