American Chemical Society (ACS) Concentration
Chemistry professionals have the exciting opportunity to pursue careers in many industries. Our ACS accredited major combines theoretical and experimental chemistry to prepare students for scholarly and industrial positions. After completing an ACS approved Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Elizabethtown College, graduates are extremely well-prepared for careers in a variety of areas, including the medical field, pharmaceuticals, material science, or governmental laboratories. Graduates may also choose to pursue further education in the field.
Why Get an ACS Certified Degree?
Our ACS major concentration is accredited by the American Chemical Society’s Committee on Professional Training. Our ACS certified chemistry major reinforces the authority and academic rigor of our program.
Get Hands-On Lab Experience
Our ACS concentration coursework includes extensive laboratory requirements to ensure students are exposed to and gain confidence in using state-of-the-art lab equipment. This hands-on experience is essential to success in graduate school and in future careers. Our labs stimulate investigative and critical thinking skills and encourage students to think of creative solutions to difficult problems.
Complete Individualized Research
Before receiving our ACS certified degree in chemistry, all students complete an independent experimental or theoretical investigation under the close supervision of a faculty member. This research project addresses problems in modern chemistry, often in many cross-disciplinary areas. Students take advantage
of the opportunity to attend regional and national conferences to present the results of their research.
ACS Concentration Courses
While pursuing an ACS approved Bachelor of Science in chemistry, your coursework will integrate chemistry and biology. Our ACS concentration blends theory and experiment to ensure students are prepared for both academic and field work. Some courses in the ACS-certified include:
- Ch 214 - Instrumental Analysis
- CH 343 - Physical Chemistry
- CH 326 - Techniques of Biochemistry
- CH 421 - Advanced Organic Chemistry
- CH 455 - Integrated Chemistry Laboratory I
- CH 495 - Chemistry Seminar III
