In 1971, Faculty Emeritus Otis Kitchen began the Lancaster County Music Camp at Elizabethtown College. This camp has given generations of young people the ability to hone their skills and learn more about the art of making music.
2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the music camp, and now we look toward the future, and to another spectacular 50 years of music making at Elizabethtown College.
Otis taught conducting and Instrumental Methods at Etown and served as Director of Bands. He was also the founding director of the College’s jazz program. His career at Etown spanned from 1965 to 1996. In 2000, he was named the recipient of the Elizabethtown College Centennial award in recognition of his positive impact on Etown students and the campus community. In addition, he was a benevolent donor to the Otis Kitchen Scholarship Fund, established by the former College Auxilary in his honor, benefitting student members of the concert band.
