Artist Talk & Reception September 29, 2022 at 5 p.m. in Hess Gallery, Zug Memorial Hall. Artist Statement "Most projects are inspired from beyond thought process. I am generally inspired by my vast organized selection of potential assemblage. The gravitational force of chance repurposes objects from their previous function to become something new and unexpected. Projects evolve to tell their own story and symbols. A tittle then becomes apparent to me. I imagine my subconscious is at play in the creation process. I put myself on the shelf when working. I leave my work's Rorschach open so viewers may conjure up their own interpretation. I mock my inner self with Cross Section of the Artist (shown). As artworks evolve, so do I as an artist. I started this piece 45 years ago, and abandoned it. I recently revisited to reveal a unique painting that I am very happy with." –Ron Ettelman

Echo Valley Art Group Annual Exhibit
01/20/22 - 02/27/22
The Echo Valley Art Group, established in 1945, is an organization limited to 25 professional artists of a broad range of ages and styles, working and creating in the Lancaster County area. Membership is by invitation, with artist selection based on their exhibition history, career development, participation in the arts community, and what they add to the group. EVAG meets monthly to discuss their work and current art events, and to organize their annual exhibit of new work, and other exhibits. We hold an annual auction of original art, with the intent of sharing our artwork with our community and collectors, and to raise funds to support the arts in Lancaster. Echo Valley believes that a community that values the Arts, thrives. "Echo Valley" was the name of the Cleves Dodge farm on the south edge of Neffsville, PA. That's where in 1945, Peggy P. Dodge and a few friends began to meet weekly in a farm building to study and practice art. Their instructor was Pauline Stauffer, an accomplished artist and Lancaster High School art teacher. In the first year, the group had grown to over 20 people, but all was very informal and unstructured, the group gathering to make friends and create art and generally have fun. By the end of the first decade, which was also the country's first decade after WWII, art had begun to gain a strong foothold in Lancaster County. This was encouraged by the high level of art instruction in schools and colleges, and the influx of professional artists and designers being employed by the expanding local industries. In the 1950's and 60's, Echo Valley gained many of these local professionals to their membership, who must have welcomed the opportunity to make social contact with like-minded peers and exhibit work with them. It was at this point that the group formalized its existence with by-laws and a limited membership of 25 active members, which it still maintains today.

a bridge across, a path through
10/28/21 - 12/10/21
This exhibition will feature original Thread Paintings, Oil Paintings and Works on Paper. In all of my work, I explore nature-based subject matter as a way to reflect upon and better understand my human experience. I am not trying to render an exact likeness of any one place, but rather celebrate the spirit of aliveness I find in nature. Along with uncoiling ferns and blossoming trees, I am currently painting bridges and paths in real and imagined landscapes. I have been thinking about how a bridge is literally a way to connect two sides, in my mind becoming a metaphor of connection between two people with different experiences or ideals. This was particularly poignant in the fall of 2020, as we were in the midst of a very divisive election season and people were separated by their beliefs. A path winding through a space symbolizes a journey, perhaps through the past year, living through the pandemic. Now as we near the end, there is both joy and anxiety associated with re-emerging into the world, this spring. We are all trying to navigate our world that feels both familiar and forever changed -Heidi Leitzke
