Clearance Requirements for Education Majors
The Education Department requires all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in courses that require observation hours and fieldwork submit the following clearances as mandated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for educators in PreK-12 schools. Clearances are valid for one year from the date of issue and cannot expire during the semester. The links below contain information on how to obtain clearances and required forms, if applicable.
School districts/placements may have additional requirements for candidates. Candidates will be required to complete any additional paperwork/supplemental items required by the district.
Required Clearances
The following required health screening is required prior to beginning a teacher preparation program at Elizabethtown. A rescreening may be required by individual school districts within 90 days of field placement, in accordance with PA School Code.
Required Training
Act 126 of 2012 (Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training) mandates that all school entities and independent contractors of school entities provide their employees who have direct contact with children complete a minimum of three hours of training on child abuse and sexual misconduct recognition and reporting. The following training is recommended for all Education students and required for Formal Acceptance to the Department. On completion of training, the clearance remains active for five years.

Helpful Clearance Tips
- Keep all official copies and certificates for your records.
- Be able to produce clearances at the site of and on the first day of all field placements.
- Submit PDF copies of all clearances to Regina Gliot.
- The Education Department Office cannot accept photographs of any clearance documents. PDF or printed copies are the only acceptable submissions.
