- Go to College Catalog.
Course Substitutions and Waivers
Q. I wish to request a course waiver. I wish to request a course substitution. What should I do?
- Submit a Student Petition online.
Q. I wish to take Course A next semester. But Course A requires a prerequisite Course B that I am taking this semester (or will be taking in the summer). Can I register for Course A this semester?
- Yes--subject to the condition that you will successfully complete Course B before the beginning of the next semester. Submit a Student Petition online to the department seeking temporary waiver of the prerequisite.
Double Major or Minor
Please refer to this matrix to determine if you can double major or minor in related disciplines.
Pre-enroll in EC101/EC102
Q. Both EC101 and EC102 will satisfy the Social Science Core. As a business student, how do I pre-enroll in EC101 or EC102?
- By submitting the pre-enrollment form via the Microsoft Form.
College Core and SLEs
Q. Can I double-count courses in business and the College Core?
- Yes. For example, each of EC101 Principles of Macroeconomics and EC102 Principles of Microeconomics satisfies a requirement for the BA major and the Social Science Core. MA251 Probability and Statistics satisfies a requirement for the BA major and the Math Core.
Q. How many Signature Learning Experiences do I have to complete?
Q. Do I need to take a Guided Writing & Research (GWR) course?
- Yes. You are required to take at least one GWR course in any Core Area of Understanding (AU) other than Power of Language - English.
- Example: EN281 Writing and Analyzing the Short Story fulfills both the Creative Expression Core and GWR requirements.
Q. What courses do I need to satisfy the Power of Language AU?
- A writing-based English Department course (normally EN100), and
- One other course in Modern or Ancient Languages.
Internships
Q. Where do I get info on internships and job openings?
- Go to Internships & Jobs. Here you will see leads on finding internships and info on course work. After you have secured an internship, fill out a learning contract. Then:
- For Accounting internships: Contact Prof. Terrie Riportella.
- For Business Administration, Economics and International Business internships: Contact Dr. Hossein Varamini.
- Visit the college's Career Development Center.
Study Tours and Study Abroad
Q. I wish to go abroad. Where do I start?
The Department offers a number of short-term (2-3 weeks) study tours.
If you'd like to study abroad for a full semester:
-
-
Meet with your advisor well in advance of the semester when you will be studying abroad. The Study Abroad Office recommends meeting before registration in the first semester of college in order to plan out a graduation plan that includes courses that can be taken abroad.
-
Meet with study abroad peer advisor or Director of Study Abroad.
-
Apply to program and to Study Abroad Office.
-
Get your Course Approval Form reviewed and signed by advisor, and then submit to Study Abroad Office as soon as possible
-
Satisfying Core courses is easier to do abroad than major requirements, especially in areas of understanding such as Creative Expression, Modern Language, Western and Non-Western Cultural Heritage. Many sites have Humanities and Social Sciences as well, but do check with the Study Abroad Office to see if your desired location offers these core areas.
-
If you want to satisfy your Guided Writing & Research (GWR) core requirement while abroad, you must submit a course syllabus for evaluation. It is difficult to get approval from GWR while abroad, so consider taking it on campus.
-
Save all syllabi from your study abroad experience.
-
If your courses change while they are abroad, you need to email your academic advisor and the study abroad director,
-
International transcripts usually take two to four months to arrive at Elizabethtown College. Unfortunately, credits cannot be calculated into your class standing until the transcript is received and posted. This may affect your financial aid status, Community Living lottery numbers, and registration time slots. Transcripts are processed as quickly as possible and notification is sent to all relevant offices upon receipt of official transcripts.
-
Credits, not grades, transfer back to Elizabethtown College; therefore, GPAs are not affected. The minimum grade requirement for transfer is C-. P/F grades are not accepted.
-
Transfer policy allows a 3-credit transfer course to satisfy a 4-credit Elizabethtown Core course offering, although the number of credits transferring in remains 3.
-
You will be unable to study abroad in your final semester. You can study abroad during the fall of your senior year.
-
While abroad, you are required to keep your Etown email account open and check it regularly. You must regularly check your Elizabethtown email and ECweb accounts for notifications from Registration and Records as well as announcements related to advising, registration and graduation in Campus News. You must email your academic advisor to remove the hold on your account before registering.
-
There is no priority scheduling for students studying abroad. They are governed by the same registration policies as domestic students. This includes communicating with advisors via email so that advisors can release the advising hold prior to registration. It also means submitting all necessary forms: Verification of Need to Enroll in Core, Overload Petitions, Time Conflict Resolutions, Register by Instructor, etc.
-
Independent Study / Directed Study / Tutorial
Q. What's the difference between these?
